How To Insulate Underground Pipes

An underground pipe has to be buried below the theoretical frost line, i.e. at least 60 cm in depth. In places where there is no risk of damage due to deep excavation work, it can also be buried less deeply, if you do a good job of thermally insulating the pipes.

However, a minimum of at least 30 cm must be observed, due to possible damage by spade work. PUR 7 is the perfect choice for insulating your garden pipes.

Step 1: Preparation

  • Free the tube as well as possible of soil, sand and any other materials.
  • At regular intervals lay a little wooden block beneath the pipe, so that the bottom of the pipe is also insulated.
  • Moisten the pipe with the plant sprayer. This will give you a better adhesion. It also shortens the curing time.

Step Two: Fixing

  • Shake the can very carefully.
  • Spray a thin layer of PUR 7 all around the pipe, beginning at the bottom.

Step 3: Finishing

  • After around 2 hours the foam is cured and it can be covered.
  • You can remove uncured PUR foam with PUR 7 Cleaner and Tec 7 Cleaner.
